Los Angeles, California 1986

The first phase of the project is a twelve acre linear park at the southeast edge of the site which serves as a transition between the Center and the adjacent residential neighborhood. The park was designed with the participation of the neighboring residents. It successfully incorporates design responses to requests for preservation of views, roadway noise reduction, neighborhood privacy and security. Its spine is a system of stepped decorative block and plaster walls, creating terraces planted with an array of rare exotic subtropical trees and plants cascading toward the Center. Communities of native and mediterranean plants face the surrounding neighborhood.
