PHINEAS BANNING ALUMNI HOUSE AND UNIVERSITY EXTENSION CENTER
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE
Irvine, California 1983 - 1985

Campbell and Campbell designed the landscape elements and collaborated with the Architect in establishing the site masterplan and architecture. The plan establishes important linkages between the residential and academic regions of the Campus and provides an important landmark and focus for commuter student and alumni contact with the University. The site plan recalls southern California's early Rancho and Craftsman landscape traditions, and more specifically the gardens of the early Irvine Ranch. The site is organized around a series of functional, outdoor rooms formed by both landscape architectural elements (pergolas, terraces and planting) and building masses.
